Virginia State Association

The Oxford Houses of Virginia State Association was formed in 2004. The main objective was to share experience, strength, and open communications between the chapters. We felt that by meeting with all Chapter Chairpersons on a regular basis, we could enhance the operations of the houses and ensure the guidelines as set forth in the Traditions and Manuals. From the social aspect, it allowed members from around the state to get acquainted.

The State Association does not establish policy, but may make strong suggestions voted on by the entire board; it promotes the use of the Traditions and Manuals; it assists chapters in trouble; it helps out financially for chapters when needed; it is a reporting venue to ensure the consistency and growth of houses and it can quickly become mobilized to provide whatever the occasion requires (State and World Conventions, House closures, training, Alumni, etc.)

Members of the State Association Board consist of 15 Chapter Chairpersons, seven alumni members and World Council member(s).  For every two chapters added an alumni position is added to the State Association.  Alumni Members shall serve for two years and may be re-elected not more than five consecutive terms, with full voting and office-holding privileges. World Council Members shall serve on the State Association with full voting and office-holding privileges.  When the World Council member’s term has expired and yet hold an elected office, they exempt themselves from the full voting privilege unless an Alumni Member. Chapter Chairpersons shall serve for as long as they hold that office in their Chapter, up to the one-year term limit.

Each Chapter pays dues to the Virginia State Association at a rate of $3.00 per bed per month. Dues are to be paid and forwarded in advance to the Treasurer or paid at the State Association meeting. If dues are not paid, the respective Chapter forfeits voting privileges until current on dues.

The State Association elects officers consisting of Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Alumni Chairperson, Housing Services Chairperson, Public Relations Chairperson, Resource Development Chairperson, Budget/Finance Chairperson, Conventions Planning Committee Chairperson and Webmaster. These officers shall be elected annually, shall serve a term of one year and may be re-elected, but not for more than two consecutive terms in any one office.

The State Association convenes at 11:00 a.m. on the second Saturday of every odd-numbered month. Contact your Chapter Board for the current address and location.
